Several Agrotecnio investigators and eighty people took part on Thursday in the School of Agricultural Engineering (ETSEA) of the University of Lleida (UDL) in a workshop on the applications of biotechnology in the food industry. Beyond the controversial of genetically modified crops, this discipline has applications in many other areas, such as farming or industry. For example, researchers at the University of Lleida perform searches on leading issues such as the selection of pig or new food processing methods.
The seminar “Biotechnology serving the food industry” seeks to highlight the capabilities of this cross technology to respond to future challenges, such as the development of agriculture and food industry sustainable and competitive. Therefore, in addition to university professors and students, there also meet representatives from companies such as Semillas Fito, select Batallé SA Mahou-San Miguel or Indulleida; and the Ministry of Agriculture and ACC1Ó and Biocat. In fact, the event coordinator and professor of ETSEA, Pedro Elez, says they want to “contact agents who make possible the biotechnological revolution in the food industry”.
