Research

I am working on molecular pharming, metabolic pathway engineering and synthetic biology. I am using target crops for unraveling mechanistic principles underpinning my programs; therefore my research has always been translational combining fundamental and applied elements. In our laboratory we have developed a new approach to engineer complex multistep plant biosynthetic pathways through multigene combinatorial transformation. We have also engineered plants to produce different microbicides with potential to be used as prophylactic treatment to prevent HIV infection.
