Apr 16, 2024

The Consell de Govern de la Generalitat de Catalunya has approved today the modification of the Statutes of the Fundació Centre de Recerca en Agrotecnologia (Agrotecnio), confirming the participation of the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya in the Centre’s Board of Trustees. This approval guarantees the fulfilment of the legal regime of the public sector, which subjects the foundations to be attached to the public administration, and article 40.3 of the Science Law (Llei de la Ciència), which establishes that the CERCA centres must be created by the administration or the latter must participate in them.

The composition of Agrotecnio’s Board of Trustees, which was formed equally by trustees from the University of Lleida (UdL) and the Institute for Agri-Food Research and Technology (IRTA), is modified and three trustees from the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya are incorporated. Therefore, the new Agrotecnio Board of Trustees is made up of six trustees from the University of Lleida, three from the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, two from the Directorate General for Research and one from IRTA.

The presidency of the Board of Trustees is held by the Rector of the University of Lleida, and the first vice-presidency by the head of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The aim of Agrotecnio is to promote, develop, transfer, manage and disseminate research in the field of agricultural and food technology and research training in the same field, aligning its strategy with that of the Generalitat’s department responsible for agri-food. To this end, the Foundation integrates recognised groups and levels of research in these areas, defining interdisciplinary projects aimed at developing new knowledge and technologies that place its research at the highest international level. The Foundation establishes relationships with centres of international prestige in order to develop projects of wide international scope.
