Research
My professional activities include R+D projects, germplasm transfer and genetic analysis for both public institutions and private companies. Research tasks support the development of new barley varieties with functional properties for human and animal consumption. In particular, varieties adapted to the Spanish conditions rich in bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans, arabinoxylans and phenolic compounds with antioxidant capacity, as well as varieties high in resistant starch. I’m working too on the development of high added value barley-bioproducts as beta-glucan extracts and enriched flours in bioactive components for nutraceutical or food purposes.
