Research

My research areas are focused on the field of precision agriculture, specifically on the use of sensors in agriculture, spatial data analysis, and development of systems for decision support and field sampling. Concerning the use of sensors, I work in the use of mobile terrestrial laser scanners (MTLS) to characterize the canopy in tree crops, and assess their suitability to model the lighting conditions inside the canopies of fruit trees and vines. I am also evaluating different sampling schemes to estimate yield and quality parameters in these crops using spectral indices and soil ‘on-the-go’ sensors as ancillary information to guide sampling more efficiently. I usually apply multivariate statistical methods and geostatistics to analyze and interpret these data at different spatial and temporal scales.
