- From July 1 to 4, the city will become an European hub for research on weed management and agricultural sustainability Lleida will become the epicenter of European agronomic research with the celebration of the 20th Symposium of the European Weed Research Society (EWRS). The event will take place from July 1st to 4th, 2025, at the La Llotja Conference Center in Lleida, bringing together around 300 scientists and professionals from 40 countries. The Weed Science and Plant Ecology group of the University of Lleida (UdL) and Agrotecnio have been selected by the EWRS as organizers of this symposium, which aims to gather researchers, agricultural sector technicians, delegates from biotechnological and agrochemical companies, as well as policymakers in agro-environmental matters from Europe and other continents. The main objective of this international meeting is to share the latest scientific and technological advances in weed management, as well as to foster collaboration between institutions, promote innovative research, and discuss solutions to current challenges in agricultural production and sustainability.
The central topics of the symposium will address key issues such as herbicide resistance, integrated weed management, impact on biodiversity, new agroecological management methods, associated ecosystem services, and the application of artificial intelligence in weed detection, monitoring, and control.
The program will include panels by international experts, oral and poster presentations featuring the latest research, roundtable discussions, and practical sessions on new technologies and control strategies. In addition, the symposium will offer networking activities and technical field visits.
