The CERCA center Agrotecnio has joined, one more year, the commemoration of the European Research Night. With the support of the University of Lleida, the center has organized some free workshops on September 20, with the aim of disseminating the work done and bring it closer to the public.

One of the four workshops organized was on the technique of photogrammetry, which allows to obtain reliable data on the shape, dimensions and positions of objects through the creation of 3D models. In this case, the researcher José Manuel Plata Moreno gave a demonstration workshop on this technique applied to precision agriculture.

In the workshop ‘Do you like cow’s milk?’, given by the researcher Irina Garcia Ispierto, from the bovine reproduction research group, was explained the project ‘One Health’, promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and which approaches health in an integral way to optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems.

The third of the programmed activities highlighted the importance of colours in our diet. Joan Narciso Oñate, from the New Food Processing Technologies research group, detailed how important it is to consume different anthocyanins, a plant pigments present in vegetables and fruits, and how important it is to consume them. Anthocyanins are attributed with anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic and antioxidant properties.

Finally, the fourth workshop addressed how to virtualize reality from photographs and was led by researchers Damià Vericat and Manel Llena, geographers from the Center for Forest Science and Technology of Catalonia (CTFC) and professors at the UdL.

The European Research Night is a public event dedicated to the popularization of science that is held every year in more than 300 cities in 30 European countries at the same time. Its aim is to bring research and its protagonists to the public of all ages and to make research and innovation known in an easy and fun way.
