Research
My scientific interest is based on developing new strategies to improve the profitability and sustainability of beef and dairy cattle farms by increasing herd reproductive efficiency. My scientific studies have focused on studying and understanding the associations between postpartum phenotypes, genetic merit and reproductive efficiency in grazing dairy cattle, with a special interest in developing new approaches to increase ovulatory response and gestation rate by insemination or embryo transfer in beef cows undergoing synchronisation protocols. I am currently developing new strategies such as the use of in vitro produced bovine embryos (IVF) using ovaries from slaughtered cows to reduce late embryo loss and twin gestations, as well as to increase gestation rate in times of heat stress in high production dairy cattle.
