On 7th October we held the first Early Career Researchers Forum, a joint initiative of Agrotecnio and University of Lleida to help PhD students and young postdocs in their career orientation. The objective of the forum is to improve their management, communication and organisational skills and to meet other young investigators. In the first session, dedicated to the Scientific Career in Academia, we started with a video presentation of the meetings by Eber Rojas, senior researcher of the Bovine Reproduction group and the promoter of this initiative. In addition, we had the presentations of Ignacio Romagosa, director of Agrotecnio; Leticia Carro, UdL Director of the Research and Technology Transfer Area; Gustavo Slafer, principal investigator of the Crop Physiology group; and Josep Lluís Araus, principal investigator of the Plant Phenomics group.
Specifically, Slafer and Araus explained to the audience their experiences as evaluators in the Juan de la Cierva, Ramón y Cajal and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions calls and the most important selection criteria for an academic CV. This was followed by an interesting discussion between speakers and participants. To conclude the first forum, Mari Paz Romero, principal investigator of the Bioactive Food Compounds group; offered a cheese and wine tasting where we could learn about fermentations and have a relaxed conversation.
