15 Agrotecnio scientists featured among researchers with the greatest international visibility

Several members of the centre are included in the Best Universities in the World 2026 ranking, which places the University of Lleida 765th worldwide.

Fifteen researchers from Agrotecnio are featured in the international Best Universities in the World 2026 ranking, compiled by the Research.com platform, which assesses the scientific output and impact of universities worldwide.

The ranking is based primarily on bibliometric indicators, particularly the H-index, which measures the impact of scientific output in a given discipline based on the number of publications and citations received.

The ranking places the University of Lleida 765th worldwide. In Plant Science and Agronomy, the University of Lleida ranks ninth in Spain and 173rd internationally, reflecting the international reach of the agri-food research carried out in Lleida.

The Agrotecnio researchers contributing to this scientific activity include Olga Martín Belloso, Paul Christou, Gustavo A. Slafer, Sonia Marín, Robert Soliva-Fortuny, Roxana Savin, Ignacio Romagosa, Concha Ramos, Jordi Voltas, José A. Martínez-Casasnovas, Josu G. Alday, Carlos Cantero, Teresa Capell, Immaculada Viñas and Antonio J. Ramos.

Their research connects agriculture, food and the wider territory through an applied approach. Paul Christou and Teresa Capell explore ways to improve crops using biotechnological tools, while Gustavo A. Slafer, Roxana Savin and Ignacio Romagosa study crop development, performance and adaptation, with a particular focus on cereals.

In the field of agronomy, Carlos Cantero and Concha Ramos Martín work on cultivation techniques that make more efficient use of resources and reduce environmental impact. Olga Martín-Belloso and Robert Soliva-Fortuny investigate new technologies for food processing and preservation, while Immaculada Viñas studies spoilage microorganisms and pathogens that can affect fruit and vegetables.

Food safety is also a key focus of the centre’s research. Sonia Marín and Antonio J. Ramos analyse fungi and mycotoxins that can compromise the quality of food and animal feed. José A. Martínez-Casasnovas, meanwhile, applies remote sensing and geospatial technologies to agricultural and soil management, while Jordi Voltas and Josu G. Alday study how forest ecosystems respond to environmental changes and climate change.

Together, these research areas highlight the diversity of the agri-food and forestry research carried out at Agrotecnio and its contribution to more sustainable, safe and innovative agriculture.
