Inmaculada Viñas

Currently, Dr. Inmaculada Viñas is Professor Emerita at the University of Lleida. She is the author of 235 research articles published in international journals indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) on spoilage microorganisms and foodborne pathogens in whole and minimally processed fruits and vegetables. Her current H-index, according to Web of Science, is 52. She has contributed to the edition of the book “Poscosecha de peras, manzanas y melocotones”, Mundi-Prensa Publishing, 2013. ISBN 978-84-8476-549-3, as well as to several book chapters such as “Sucs de fruita de poma” and “Innovative technologies in the beverage processing”, Wiley-Blackwell, 2017. ISBN 978-1-118-92937-7.

Since the beginning of her scientific career (1985), she has focused on the microbiology of fruits and vegetables and on the control of spoilage and pathogenic microorganisms. She has obtained three patents related to biological control for use in whole and minimally processed fruits. To achieve this, she has secured funding from a total of 43 research projects. These projects have been awarded in competitive calls under the European Union Framework Programme (FP5, FP6 and FP7) with 7 projects, 26 National Plan projects, 1 CYTED project, 11 regional and local calls, and 1 COST Action. The results of this research have been presented in more than 300 contributions to national and international conferences and symposia. Regarding technology transfer to food companies, she has more than 30 transfer contracts. In terms of training capacity, she has supervised 25 PhD theses during the period 1995–2025.
