The
Weed Science and Plant Ecology research group of the University of Lleida-Agrotecnio has been honoured with the
International City of Lleida Award, in recognition of more than forty years of research, innovation, and knowledge transfer in the fields of agronomy and plant ecology.
The jury particularly valued the group’s international prestige and its contribution to positioning Lleida as a reference centre for scientific research and talent attraction. Led by Professor
Jordi Recasens, the group focuses its work on the study of ecological processes within agroecosystems, with special attention to arable flora, the non-woody herbaceous plants commonly known as weeds.
The award, granted by the City Council of Lleida, consists of a reproduction of the
Bronze of Ascoli and will be presented at an institutional ceremony. The City Council has revived the award after six years without being held, with the aim of highlighting local talent and promoting the city as a hub of knowledge and innovation.
In this edition, the competition received ten nominations, proposed by fourteen individuals and organisations from the fields of research, entrepreneurship, science communication, the arts, education, and sports.
