My professional activities include R&D projects, germplasm transfer and genetic analysis for both public institutions and private companies. My research work supports the development of new barley varieties with functional properties for human and animal consumption. In particular, varieties adapted to Spanish conditions, rich in bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans, arabinoxylans and phenolic compounds with antioxidant capacity, as well as varieties with a high resistant starch content. I also work on the development of high-value barley bioproducts, such as beta-glucan extracts and flours enriched with bioactive components for nutraceutical or food purposes.
