Research activity has been primarily concerned with the biochemistry and physiology of fruit ripening, fruit quality and their postharvest conservation. The main research areas have been related to the biosynthesis of aromatic volatile compounds, cell wall metabolism, controlled atmospheres and other treatments or methodologies for preserving postharvest quality, and hormonal interactions in fruit ripening. Currently, research interests are focused on studying the role of the fruit cuticle in modulating postharvest quality, shelf life and storage potential, and responses to environmental conditions and biotic and abiotic stress factors.
