Can science calculate Santa Claus’s environmental impact? Gabriel de la Fuente, a researcher in the Animal Nutrition and Environment group at Agrotecnio and professor at the University of Lleida, will open Pint of Science Lleida 2026 with his talk El secreto mejor guardado de Papá Noel (Santa Claus’s Best-Kept Secret). This and other sessions form part of the festival programme, which will take place from 18 to 20 May at Pub Legend in Lleida, at 19:00.
Researchers from a wide range of disciplines will bring their work closer to the public as part of the world’s largest science communication event. In Lleida, the programme will feature six talks covering topics such as the environment and water management, literature, historical memory, perinatal health and neuroscience.
The free festival Pint of Science Spain will bring together more than 1,300 researchers across 114 cities and towns on 18, 19 and 20 May. After each session, the audience will have the opportunity to interact directly with the scientists, fostering an open, approachable and engaging dialogue that encourages questions and curiosity.
One of the festival’s main aims is to reduce the gap between scientific knowledge and territories located far from major urban centres. In this sense, the initiative highlights the importance of showcasing scientific role models in rural contexts, where access to such references is more limited.
Now established as a global phenomenon present in 27 countries across five continents, the festival strengthens the role of the scientific community in connecting with society. In this context, the participation of Agrotecnio researchers in Lleida helps bring research in agri-food and environmental sciences closer to the public, highlighting its direct impact on the local territory.
