My research career began with my PhD and my first postdoctoral fellowship in the field of animal biotechnology and the use of transgenic livestock as bioreactors for therapeutic drugs or to improve animal health and production. These early years provided me with experience in the analysis and manipulation of gene expression and the characterisation of promoters and chromatin elements. Since 2002, I have expanded this experience to the field of animal genomics. Currently, my research focuses on the development and application of molecular markers for improving animal production, health and welfare, especially in pigs. We have applied genomic approaches, at both the DNA and RNA levels, to identify mutations that can help improve the accuracy of breeding programmes.
