I have focused my research activity on technology applied to the storage of fresh fruit (especially apples, pears, peaches, plums, etc.). The main objective of the research is to improve fruit quality by optimising storage technologies and other post-harvest treatments. Specifically, I have studied the influence of controlled atmospheres (CA) on quality parameters (texture, aroma, skin colour, etc.) and physiological disorders (skin burns, pulp darkening, cold damage, etc.) in fruit. In addition, I have paid special attention to evaluating the suitability of different post-harvest treatments (CA, thermal and CO2 shocks, 1-methylcyclopropene, CaCl₂, etc.) for preserving organoleptic and nutritional quality parameters and extending the shelf life of fruit.
