Objectives

Agrotecnio’s Crop Protection Group conducts research in the field of agronomy and plant ecology. Its work focuses on the integrated management of pests, diseases and weeds, with the aim of reducing crop yield losses through the use of sustainable methods and strategies that respect the environment and human health.

Research lines

  1. Ecology and integrated weed management.
  2. Integrated pest management.
  3. Integrated pathogen management.
  4. Personal and environmental safety of phytosanitary treatments by land and air.

Main activities

  1. Characterisation and integrated management of herbicide-resistant weeds.
  2. Soil management in perennial crops with plant cover and organic mulch.
  3. Development of plant protection products based on microorganisms.
  4. Evaluation of biological control agents in the laboratory and in the field.
  5. Analysis of factors affecting insect development and behaviour for pest control.
  6. Movement of predators in the agricultural landscape.

International impact

The group is a European leader in the characterisation of herbicide-resistant weed biotypes and participates in several international projects that propose innovative agroecological approaches to weed management.

Agrotecnio’s Crop Protection Group is a European leader in field trials to assess the environmental risk of transgenic crops and a world leader in assessing the risks of using omnivorous predators in the biological control of insect pests.
