Project
Automatic feeders
Automatic feeders and artificial intelligence in pig production. How to improve the management and efficiency of fattening farms through digitalisation.
What is it?
An agrifood innovation initiative aimed at improving the management and efficiency of pig fattening farms through digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
Objectives
- Digitise pig fattening farms: Implement advanced technology (automatic feeders, sensors, and artificial intelligence) to modernise animal feed control and management.
- Monitor individual feeding behaviour: Collect real-time data on when and how pigs eat to identify patterns and anomalies.
- Optimise diet and improve production efficiency: Tailor each animal’s feed to its needs to promote optimal and sustainable growth.
- Reduce environmental impact: minimise nitrogen and phosphorus excretion through more efficient feed management, contributing to environmental sustainability.
- Detect health problems early: use artificial intelligence to identify changes in feeding behaviour that may indicate disease or stress.
- Transfer knowledge to the sector: disseminate the project results through demonstrations and training to encourage the adoption of these technologies in other Catalan farms.
Who carries it out?
This project is led by:
- Agrotecnio
- University of Lleida (UdL)
- Centre d’Estudis Porcins (CEP)
It also has the support and participation of Catalan livestock farms that are collaborating in the demonstration phase of the project.
Funding
The project on automatic feeders and artificial intelligence for pig production is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food with European funds and is part of the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027.
