Animal Nutrition & Environment
Principal investigator
Joaquim Balcells Terés
Objectives
The main objective of the Animal Nutrition & Environment Group is to study the impact of animal production in the context of climate change, while proposing mitigation measures.
Research lines
- Use of local products for animal feed.
- Study of the impact of heat stress on the metabolism of monogastric animals.
- Influence of feed on the immune status of ruminants.
- Use of additives to mitigate the impact of livestock manure.
- Proposals for differential management in the early stages of life to promote resilience and robustness in ruminants.
Main activities
They are structured around skills based on the study of:
- The use of next-generation sequencing to study the digestive microbiota.
- The analysis of greenhouse gases.
- The use of gene expression to study immunity.
- The management of isotopic markers to study metabolism.
International impact
Renowned international expertise in the impact of livestock farming on the production of polluting gases. Collaborations with internationally renowned groups (INRAe).
