Cereals are one of the most important crops in the Mediterranean region. Lack of water and nitrogen, together with salinity, limit their productivity. Genetic improvement contributes to varieties that are better adapted to these environmental limitations. For this reason, it is necessary to exploit the genetic variability of these crops, seeking characteristics and protocols that help detect phenotypic adaptation to different stresses, as well as to better understand the physiological and molecular mechanisms involved.
