My research interests focus on optimising preventive medicine programmes in livestock. Consequently, my lines of research are clinical pharmacology, epidemiology and immunology in diseases of veterinary interest. Specifically, I have conducted numerous studies on viral and bacterial diseases in pigs, focusing on generating new knowledge about their epidemiology, the treatment of the disease (mainly with antibiotics) and the development of effective vaccines for their control. The viral diseases are porcine circovirus type 2, classical swine fever, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) and swine influenza virus. On the other hand, bacterial diseases are Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Haemophilus parasuis. Recently, we have opened a new line of research to gain new knowledge about genetic resistance to PRRSV in pig herds. This research is funded by public and private resources.
