I am a soil scientist and ecohydrologist researching interactions between vegetation, soils and water in arid ecosystems, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. This work covers a wide range of land uses, including grasslands, forests, croplands and agroforestry systems. My research explores how sustainable soil management and restoration can improve the provision of ecosystem services, especially those related to soil and water. I am particularly interested in understanding how changes in tree cover, land use, and management practices affect soil hydrological functioning and related ecosystem services, from water supply and regulation to erosion control. I lead and contribute to interdisciplinary projects that aim to support sustainable development and strengthen local livelihoods.
