Forest Management

Principal investigator
Jordi Voltas Velasco

Objectives

The main objective of Agrotecnio’s Forest Management group is to analyse and characterise the threats posed by climate change to forest areas and define adaptation strategies, as well as to improve sustainable forest management in a context of global change.

This group is part of a joint research unit with the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), which aims to promote leadership, implementation and transfer of joint research on the management of Mediterranean forest areas and the threats they face.

Research lines

  1. Ecology, ecophysiology and genetics of forest trees in Mediterranean environments.
  2. Supply of forest goods and services.
  3. Forest modelling and spatial statistics.

Main activities

  1. Assessment of carbon and water balance in forests under drought conditions.
  2. Fire ecology.
  3. Analysis and forecasting of the adaptation potential of forest tree species.
  4. Dynamics of forest productivity (including non-timber forest products such as truffles) in relation to global change.
  5. Characterisation of climatic responses and competition dynamics among trees in drought-prone areas.

International impact

Leading group in the use of advanced phenotyping techniques, fire ecology and fire dynamics.
