This area includes groups that study environmental sustainability from an integrative perspective. They address the management of forest ecosystems, the analysis of pollutants in the environment and the efficient conservation of soil and water, with a special focus on adaptation to climate change.
This area brings together several research groups that address the main challenges of plant production in a context of global change. They work to improve the efficiency, sustainability and quality of crops through agronomy, biotechnology, physiology, phenomics, precision technologies and plant protection with ecological approaches.
Agrotecnio has extensive experience and international recognition in animal sciences, especially in reproduction, development, nutrition and genetics of species of agri-food interest. Its research focuses on improving production efficiency, animal welfare and product quality, contributing to a more sustainable and competitive livestock sector.
The groups in this area focus their research on the safety, quality and nutritional value of food, especially plant-based foods. They work in areas such as post-harvest physiology, biological control of pathogens, applied mycology, sustainable processing and packaging technologies, and the study of antioxidant compounds and their impact on health.
In 2025, Agrotecnio incorporated a cross-cutting pillar of Agrifood Law dedicated to legal research applied to the sector, with a special focus on European regulations, sustainability, food safety, consumer protection and environmental law. Its work contributes to understanding and improving the legal framework that regulates the food system, while promoting responsible governance and safe, fair and sustainable food.
