Project
FriendlyFields
FriendlyFields. Sustainable and environmentally friendly Bomba rice, resistant to blast disease. Field evaluation and assessment of prototype lines of Bomba rice with greater resistance to pyricularia.
What is it?
FRIENDLY FIELDS is a project that develops and evaluates new varieties of Bomba rice resistant to bacterial blight, a very common and destructive fungal disease, through genome editing (GE) of genes susceptible to this fungus. These new varieties will be validated in field trials to demonstrate their effectiveness and environmental sustainability.
Objectives
- Verify the resistance of genetically modified rice varieties in the field.
- Promote sustainable and environmentally friendly prototypes.
- Contribute to European regulatory change so that certain genetically modified crops are not considered GMOs.
- Transfer knowledge to rice producers, authorities and society.
- Promote the commercialisation of genetically modified resistant varieties.
