My research focuses primarily on the microbiology of fruits, with particular emphasis on the fruit–microorganism interaction. I analyse both the virulence factors of pathogens and the defence mechanisms that fruits activate in response to infection. I have worked extensively with Penicillium, Botrytis and Monilinia, using advanced molecular techniques that include the study of their genomes and transcriptomes. In parallel, I have investigated the fruit’s defence mechanisms and how its physiology influences susceptibility to spoilage. I also have solid experience in controlling postharvest rots, particularly through the application of biocontrol agents and other sustainable strategies.
