His general line of research focuses on the effect that nutritional and management practices can have on the productive and reproductive performance of ruminants, addressing the interactions that occur between the physiology, genetics and nutrition of the animal in the productive context of a livestock farm. Specifically, in the case of cattle, the effects of prenatal nutrition on the foetus are studied, where the maternal diet will activate adaptation mechanisms that modify foetal programming and adapt the physiology of the new individual to the uterine environment. These adaptation processes can lead to irreversible changes throughout the calf’s adult life. In the case of sheep, the effect of the melatonin receptor, in both males and females, on the reproductive rates of these animals is studied.
