Law, economics and agronomy working together to innovate

Law Department

Agrotecnio and the Law Department of the University of Lleida have promoted six joint projects that combine legal, economic and agronomic knowledge. With interdisciplinary teams, these projects seek to address challenges relevant to the agri-food law sector.

Objectives

  1. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration between Agrotecnio researchers and staff from the Departments of Law and Economics and Business at the University of Lleida.
  2. Open up new fields of application for agri-food research, combining technical and scientific knowledge with the legal, social and economic dimensions of the sector.
  3. To promote the transfer of knowledge to the productive and institutional environment, offering more comprehensive responses to the challenges of the agri-food system.

Projects

Truffle farming: agricultural or forestry cultivation?

Summary

The project analyses the legal nature of truffle cultivation, a growing activity in Spain. The aim is to determine whether it is an agricultural or forestry crop, a distinction with important implications for subsidies, regulation and marketing of the product.

Legal repercussions of the EU's failure to comply with genome-edited crops

Assessment of how regulations limiting the use of antibiotics affect animal health, veterinary practices and the economic sustainability of dairy farms, considering the World Health Organisation’s “One Health” approach.

OliSost: sustainability in the extra virgin olive oil value chain
