Objectives
The main objective of Agrotecnio’s Animal Health Group is to optimise preventive medicine programmes for farm animals in order to control and/or eradicate diseases that are relevant to production and, in this way, increase the technical and economic efficiency of these animals.
Research lines
- Development of vaccines for diseases affecting farm animals with limited availability and/or efficacy.
- Development of non-antibiotic alternatives for the treatment and control of bacterial diseases affecting farm animals.
- Optimisation of the use of antimicrobials in farm animals by improving disease diagnosis and/or selecting these medicines using epidemiological tools.
Main activities
- Development of infection models to evaluate the efficacy of new vaccines for farm animals.
- Clinical and field trials for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of swine and bovine diseases using vaccines, antibiotics and their alternatives.
- Analysis of antimicrobial susceptibility through in vitro testing and its application to optimise the use of antimicrobials.
International impact
Leading position in research into swine and cattle diseases with the aim of developing tools for use in the field. Recognised expertise in field trials for the evaluation of medicines and vaccines for swine and cattle diseases.
