Research

My career in research started with my PhD and first postdoc in the field on Animal Biotechnology and the use of transgenic livestock animal as bioreactors of therapeutic drugs or to improve animal production and health. These early years gave me experience in the analysis and manipulation of gene expression and the characterisation of promoters and chromatin elements. Since 2002 I have expanded this experience in the field of animal genomics. At the present time my research is focused on the development and application of molecular markers to the improvement of animal production, health and welfare, particularly in pigs. We applied genomic approaches, both at the DNA and RNA level, to identify mutations that can assist improving the accuracy of breeding programs.
