An expert in crop physiology, he has significantly contributed to advancing knowledge on yield physiology, particularly in cereals, through research on growth and development processes. His work identifies alternatives to traditional agricultural practices and genetic improvement methods to enhance resource efficiency and sustainability in extensive crop production.<\/p>\n<p>His work has had a significant impact both academically and within the agri-food sector, positioning him as a key figure in developing new strategies to optimize crops in the face of climate change challenges. In fact, the H-Index Dissemination Group (DIH)\u2014which annually ranks scientists with the most cited publications\u2014has recognized Slafer as the most influential researcher in agronomy in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Slafer leads the Crop Physiology research group at Agrotecnio and was part of the center\u2019s management team from 2016 to 2018 alongside Ram\u00f3n Albajes and Vicent Sanch\u00eds. He is also an honorary professor at the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom) and the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina).<\/p>\n<p>Along with Slafer, the 2024 Narc\u00eds Monturiol Medal has also been awarded to: Jordi Alberch Vi\u00e9 (University of Barcelona &#8211; UB), Anna Alberni Jord\u00e0 (UB), Joan Grimalt i Obrador (CSIC), \u00c0ngel Lozano Solsona (Pompeu Fabra University &#8211; UPF), Emilio Palomares Gil (ICIQ), Ana Isabel P\u00e9rez Neira (Polytechnic University of Catalonia &#8211; UPC), Petia Radeva (UB), Marta Reynal Querol (UPF), and Antonio Villaverde Corrales (Autonomous University of Barcelona &#8211; UAB).<\/p>\n<p>The Archaeology Museum of Catalonia (MAC) has received the Narc\u00eds Monturiol Plaque.<\/p>\n\n<h4><strong>About the Narc\u00eds Monturiol Medal<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>With this distinction, the Government of Catalonia annually honors researchers who have made exceptional contributions to the scientific and technological progress of Catalonia.<\/p>\n<p>The Narc\u00eds Monturiol Medal was established in 1982 by the Government of Catalonia to recognize individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to research and innovation in the country. This award reaffirms Catalonia&#8217;s commitment to scientific excellence and support for internationally renowned researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Catalan government introduced the Narc\u00eds Monturiol awards in 1982, a total of 311 medals (238 to men and 73 to women) and 48 plaques have been granted to institutions.
