Agrotecnio researcher and University of Lleida professor Gustavo Slafer has been awarded the Ra\u00edces Prize 2025<\/a>, an honour bestowed by the Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation on Argentine scientists with a distinguished career abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ra\u00edces Award ceremony was held this thursday at the Consulate of Argentina in Barcelona in a hybrid format, with the participation of the Argentine Chancellery and several consulates. The award has recognised twelve researchers and aims to strengthen ties between the Argentine scientific community abroad and the national research system, promoting international cooperation and the transfer of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An ICREA researcher, a leading authority in the study of the yield of arable crops<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gustavo Slafer is an ICREA Research Professor at the School of Agricultural, Food, Forestry and Veterinary Engineering (ETSEAFiV) of the University of Lleida (UdL) and a researcher at the Agrotecnio-CERCA centre, where he leads the Crop Physiology research group. He is an expert in crop physiology and has made a decisive contribution to advancing knowledge of yield physiology, particularly in cereals. His research focuses on crop growth and development processes, identifying alternatives to traditional cultivation and genetic improvement practices with the aim of increasing resource use efficiency and the sustainability of agricultural production.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His career has had a significant impact both in academia and in the agri-food sector,\u00a0establishing\u00a0him as a leading figure in the development of new strategies to\u00a0optimise\u00a0crops in the face of the challenges posed by climate change. In this regard, the\u00a0H-Index Dissemination Group<\/a>\u00a0(DIH), which annually publishes the ranking of the most cited scientists, has placed\u00a0Slafer\u00a0as the agronomy researcher with the greatest scientific impact in the whole of Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last February, Gustavo\u00a0Slafer\u00a0was\u00a0honoured\u00a0with the\u00a0Narc\u00eds\u00a0Monturiol\u00a0Medal<\/a>, one of the highest distinctions in the scientific field awarded by the Generalitat of Catalonia, in recognition of those who have made a significant contribution to the country’s scientific and technological progress.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
